CA DMV closed on last day of my registration.?

I just went to the DMV and found out that there all closed today because of Cesar Chavez Day,my problem is that today was the last day to renew my registration and I really don't want to pay late fee's($60) because the DMV was closed on a day that isn't a national holiday yet.Does anyone know if the DMV could waive the late fee's tomorrow? or could anyone suggest a good way to explain to the clerk for them to waive it.Thanks in advanced.
